Engagement Photos with Your Pets

A Guide to Relaxed Photos with Your Furbabes

If you’ve been dreaming of including your pets in your engagement photos, you’re in the right place. These sessions are some of my favourites — relaxed, heartful, and filled with the quirks and cuddles that make your life uniquely yours. Below are a few tips to help your session feel easy and true to you.

Tip 1: Your Engagement Session with you pets – Will be All About Going with the Flow…

The best sessions start with presence, not perfection. I know you want images that feel honest and effortless — moments where your connection (and your pet’s personality) shine through. Letting go of rigid expectations opens the door to something much more meaningful: real memories, as they naturally unfold. I’ll be there to gently guide the experience so you never feel unsure or over-posed — just relaxed, and true to you.

The Power of Pre-Session Exercise: The best sessions start with presence, not perfection. The Power of Pre-Session Exercise
If your pet tends to have a lot of energy (looking at you, energetic pups), a bit of movement beforehand goes a long way. A walk, some playtime, or even arriving early so they can sniff around and get comfortable with the space helps set a calm tone. It’s one of those small things that can make a big difference.

Tip 2: Consider Having A Pet-Helper Behind the Scenes During Your Engagement Session

Bringing along a friend or family member to help out can make the session feel smoother for everyone. They can step in when we want some solo couple shots, hold onto leashes, or simply give your pet a break. This little buffer creates space for a few quiet moments between you and your partner — and keeps the vibe calm, not chaotic.

Tip 3: Bring Your Pet’s Favourite Treats

Treats are more than a reward — they’re a way to hold your pet’s attention and bring out their best expressions (yes, even that perfect head tilt). Some pets are food-motivated, others not so much — but if yours is, don’t forget to pack their favourites.

Tip 4: Consider the Location Vibes for your Pet Engagement Photos

Choose a space where your pet feels at ease. That could be your own backyard, a familiar walking trail, or even the comfort of home. Some pets thrive in new environments, others do best in spots they already know. We’ll plan your session around their needs so everyone feels good — fur and human alike.

Tip 5: Timing is Everything for Your Engagement Photos with your Pets

Golden hour light — early morning or late evening — isn’t just flattering for humans. It adds warmth and softness to every frame. For indoor sessions, we’ll aim for a well-lit time of day, but without needing to chase the sun. Whatever the plan, I’ll help you choose a time that suits the season and the story you’re telling.

Tip 6: Candid Moments Are the Best!

Let your pets be themselves — playful, shy, curious, cuddly. The quiet in-between moments and the unscripted chaos are often the most honest (and most loved) parts of your gallery. If they love fetch? We’ll play. If they prefer naps in the sun? We’ll photograph that, too.

Tip 7: Props and Accessories for Your Photo Session

A few thoughtful touches — a favourite blanket, a well-loved toy, their leash in a colour that complements your outfits — can make your session feel even more like you. And if you’re not sure what to wear or how to coordinate, neutrals always pair beautifully with pets and natural settings.

Tip 8: Patience is Key

Every pet is different. We move at their pace, take breaks as needed, and gently guide the flow. I’ll never ask for more than what feels comfortable — your pet’s safety and your peace of mind come first, always. The goal isn’t perfect poses — it’s honest presence.
