Here are my top tips for using confetti on your wedding day:

1. Use Safe & Biodegradable Confetti On Your Wedding Day

When it comes to choosing confetti, it’s important to opt for safe and biodegradable options. Weddings can produce a lot of extra waste, so always choosing to minimize the impact on our environment is always best. Plastic confetti will basically never break down. So be sure to choose natural and biodegradable options such as flower petals, leaves, or even birdseed, that will decompose naturally.

2. Communicate with Your Guests

Additionally, ensure that your guests are aware of when and how to throw the confetti. This is so important! They are the ones that will be truly creating the moment for you. By making sure they know the details, it will help ensure your moment is seamless!

How can you do this? You can include instructions on your wedding program or have your officiant make the announcements. The announcements can happen at the start of the ceremony and again before the throwing begins.

Make sure to give your guests enough time to get their confetti in their hands ready to go, before you start the big moment. Because hey, they’re probably busy clapping and / or crying after you and your partner say your ‘I dos’. Give them time to compose themselves for the moment. If you’re having confetti at the end of the ceremony, have you officiant ask your guests to stand up for it!

3. Choose Appropriate Throwing Areas

Before throwing confetti, make sure that it is allowed in the venue (or location) and choose an appropriate throwing area. Avoid throwing it near any sensitive areas like gardens or bodies of water. Again, let’s make sure to take care of our environment!

4. Get the Confetti Airborne

More tips for confetti on your wedding day include preparing for how you can get the best effect! To capture that perfect confetti moment, it’s important to ensure that it’s airborne. Ask your guests to toss the confetti high into the air, as high as they can! Alternatively, consider if you want to use a confetti cannon for maximum effect! This will create a magical moment that you’ll be able to cherish forever.

5. Consider Cost of Using Confetti On Your Wedding Day

While confetti can be a great addition to your wedding day, it’s important to consider the cost. Natural and biodegradable confetti can be more expensive. In Canada, the cost of biodegradable confetti can range from $15 to $100+ CAD, depending on the quantity and the type of material used. It’s always a good idea to shop around and compare prices to find the best deal. I’ve included a couple of options below!

6. Manitoba & Canadian Confetti Suppliers

There are several great suppliers in Manitoba and Canada that offer safe and biodegradable confetti options. Some of my recommendations include:

  • Botanical Paper Works (Winnipeg, Manitoba): This local shop offers friendly and biodegradable confetti options and stationery products.
  • The Confetti Bar (Toronto, Ontario): This online shop offers a wide selection of eco-friendly and biodegradable confetti options, including flower petals, dried leaves, and biodegradable confetti cannons.

7. Coordinate with Your Photographer

Make sure to communicate with your photographer beforehand. Let them know about your plans for confetti, and when and where it will take place. They can provide advice on the best time and location to throw it for the best photo opportunities. Making sure your photographer is aware of the plan before your wedding day will help ensure they can get in the best vantage point and know when to anticipate the big moment.

8. Choosing Confetti Colour

Additionally, to create a cohesive look, choose a colour scheme for your confetti that matches your wedding pallet colours. This will add an extra element of style to your wedding photos.

9. Use Confetti As A Grand Finale

Consider using confetti as a grand finale to your wedding day festivities, right after the first kiss, walking down the aisle, or exiting the venue of the ceremony. This can be a fun way to conclude a section of the day and create a memorable moment for you and your guests.

10. Have A Clean-Up Plan for Confetti On Your Wedding Day

While confetti is super fun to throw, it does require a bit of clean up. After the confetti is thrown, make sure to have a plan in place. This can involve assigning a clean-up crew, providing trash bins for guests to dispose of their confetti, or working with your venue to ensure that any remaining confetti is properly cleaned up. This will help to minimize the impact on the environment and ensure that the area is left clean and tidy. Consider if you need people to bring brooms or if the venue has some you can borrow.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in doing something fun without as much clean up, there are other options too. Consider things like bubbles, sparklers, or streamers instead as a way to get guests to engage in a unique celebratory moment together.

So don’t be afraid to let your guests shower you in a rain of confetti and capture that perfect photo that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
